There are two types of attestation services:
Prospective
Reporting
Services are typically provided
to existing audit clients who need prospective financial information to obtain
financing from a bank or through an offering of securities. The services
generally relate to a regulator or a report to other parties prepared under
regulations provided by the regulator.
Other Forms of Attestation Reporting as Defined
Where a chartered accountant, certified public accountant or other credentialed professional is engaged to issue or issues an examination, a review, or an agreed-upon
procedures report
on a subject matter, or an assertion about a subject matter that is the
responsibility of another party.
It involves rendering an opinion on financial statements
prepared in accordance with accounting principles relevant to the entity,
whether in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards, US
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) or accounting principles
generally accepted in a specific country.
It includes services delivered directly by the member firm and participating member firms. The services are delivered under auditing standards being either International
Standards on Auditing (ISAs), US Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (US GAAS) including standards promulgated by AICPA, GAO, DOL and the PCAOB, or auditing
standards generally accepted in a specific country. It also includes services such as reviews of interim financial statements, issuance of consents and comfort letters,
audits of statutory financial statements, compilations, reviews, reporting on internal control as part of the financial statement audit, advice on application of accounting
principles and rules in conjunction with financial statement audits, dept
compliance attestation and audits of employee benefit plans.
